About Neerlandia Public Christian School

Mission Statement:

"Neerlandia Public Christian School will provide a Christ-centered education so that students are equipped to serve God joyfully in all areas of life."

Motto:

"Learning To Serve"

History:

Early in 1915 a school had started in Neerlandia, however it was not until 1917 that Shoal Creek School District #3460 was formed and finally in 1919 the first school building was opened. Although Neerlandia School has always been under the public school umbrella, it has had a tradition of providing Christian education. In 1995 it received official Alternative School Status and hence we have our present title: Neerlandia Public Christian School.

Our goal as a school community is to acknowledge and encourage the development of each individual's God given gifts and equip them in learning to serve God joyfully in all areas of life. Presently, Neerlandia Public Christian School serves 180 students in grades K to Gr. 9.

Our Programs:

Neerlandia Public Christian School offers many programs to meet the needs of a wide variety of students from kindergarten to grade nine. In elementary we offer an effective high quality program. In Junior High the flexibility provided by Alberta Learning is used to offer students additional time in the two basic subjects of Math and Language Learning. Students may choose from a variety of CTF (Career and Technology Foundations) at the Junior High grade levels.

As a Christian school all students take Bible classes and Christianity is integrated in all aspects of the subjects and courses. Instructional assistance is provided to students who present a need. LLI (Levelled Literacy Intervention) is integrated into Gr. 1- 8 programs.

Working as a community under the guidance of the Word of God, we provide a good academic education which prepares students to translate their faith into action in all areas of learning and living. In short we are "teaching for transformation".  The school staff is enthusiastic and dedicated to the well being of each student.

Students have the advantage in Neerlandia Public Christian School of belonging to a school environment where they will be known personally and where their gifts, talents and potential are not only fully recognized but are also fully needed.

Students are encouraged to participate fully in the spiritual, leadership, athletic, social and academic life of the school. In so doing they will do their part in creating a school community that will help them become outstanding members of our society and faith communities today and in the future.

Our Facility:

In December, 2015 we were excited and blessed to move into a brand new, full-accessible school. Our full sized gym enables us to run an excellent physical education program and extra curricular activities. We have beautiful kitchen facilities for Food Studies, a warm, bright and inviting atmosphere for all students. We are also blessed with a well-stocked Public/School Library.

Students are also kept active during Phys. Ed. classes and at recesses and breaks, playing on soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and our two playgrounds.

Neerlandia Public Christian School offers many opportunities for all students to be involved in many extra-curricular activities such as sports programs: volleyball, basketball, badminton, etc. All who wish to play these sports have an opportunity to do so (we don't have try-outs).

Modern technology is integrated into our new facility.

Our school year consists of 165 days as we follow an Alternative School Year Calendar, so our students have mostly 4-day weeks. We start at 8:30 am and dismiss at 3:47 pm.

Busing is available from Barrhead and surrounding areas.
